A day in Athens, Arizona, as teens and twenty-somethings navigate life without a compass. Jimmy has gambling debts and sees a chance to steal and sell a dead-man's stash of drugs. The corpse's cousin smells a rat. Jessica, who is babysitting, abandons her charge to seek someone to defend her from a boyfriend angry that he's caught an STD. Corey is responsible for his teen sister, and he and his pal Pedro have been evicted, so they plot to steal a car, sell it, and get back in their apartment. Heather, an EMT, thinks her cop boyfriend is cheating, and she confides in her best friend. There's a party that night where all comes to a head.

A woman in her flooded kitchen thinks of Ophelia and death by drowning. A nun wonders about her vocation. A girl, dumb by choice, walks around in Naples. A ballerina in a wheelchair. Rachel has had it with her fucked up home life and decides to leave home for the underwold of the L.A. Punk scene. After passing out in a night club she finds herself at a punk squatter house and is soon cast into a raging slam dance of sexual perversions and blasting punk rock. It's an ass blasting time as Rachel discovers what being a runaway street punk is all about.

The production of a film requires recording equipment and financial resources, if nothing else. Hellmuth Costard places these basic prerequisites at the centre of his film: using a Super 8 camera system he developed, he films himself as he tries to raise funding for his film project. This creates an unconventional experimental setup, which reveals how the economics, politics, technology, and aesthetics of filmmaking relate to each other – with the ‘great’ Godard being called up as a kind of chief witness.
